Our dentist and team encourage you and your family to brush and floss your smiles every day with diligence. It’s important to brush your teeth twice a day and floss daily. However, many patients routinely skip flossing during their dental hygiene routine. If you are unused to flossing or unsure how to floss properly, we would be happy to offer tips on proper flossing techniques.

In order to receive maximum benefits from flossing, please follow our instructions and begin with an 18-inch string of floss. Wind the floss around your middle fingers until you have just a few inches in between. Keeping the floss taut between index fingers and thumbs, slide it gently up and down between each tooth, ensuring it curves into a C-shape as it reaches the bottom of each tooth and works under the gum line.

Don’t try to force the floss between teeth or under the gums, or else you may cause injury to your gums. Use a clean section of floss for each tooth, and when you remove the floss from between teeth, bring it away using a back-and-forth motion.
